How do I know I need a
psychologist's help?
Persistent feelings of feelings of sadness and helplessness can be overwhelming. In some instances, it contributes to social withdrawal, professional difficulties, challenges in executing daily living activities, and elf-care. This may be an indication of mental health condition. Psychotherapy, sometimes in collaboration with other forms of treatment, may be helpful in managing such experiences.
As human beings, our moods change, and that is normal. However, there are people who experience severe mood changes, often without an apparent reason. This might cause difficulties in self-regulation and relating with others. For individuals, this might lead to confusion, a development of negative self-concept, and relational difficulties. This could be related to an undiagnosed and untreated psychological condition. Psychotherapy may be helpful in managing mood changes and difficulties in self-regulation.
A drastic change of behavior could be an important symptom for mental health conditions. Often, we are able to notice the change. At times, it is noticed by our loved ones. It is important to explore causes of such changes, and their impact in our lives, our relationships, and in the lives of our loved ones, with a trained mental health professional.
Alcohol and drugs often become a coping strategy for those struggling with mental health problems. They become a seemingly functional coping mechanism. However, they often result in other life changes and a possible development of mental health conditions. Psychotherapy may be helpful in developing alternative and healthier coping strategies.
Due to the cognitive and psychological impact of mental health conditions and emotional distress, sustaining concentration and executing certain tasks can be difficult. This might be an indication of various mental health conditions.
